Catching Team Members in the Act of Excellence
Published on 08/25/09 01:45PM by Gary SheehanAt Cape Medical Supply we continue to aspire to greatness – work towards excellence every day. We’re not content with simply being a good company, a profitable company, a decent place to work or an alright community provider…we want to be the best and we demand it from ourselves.
We decided it was time to begin recognizing our staff members for their excellence, and we have inaugurated a “Caught in the Act of Excellence” program – whereby any staff member simply fills out a sheet of paper when they observe a co-worker doing something excellent. It could be going above and beyond for a frail customer, working with a referral source to rectify a problem, going the extra mile for a co-worker…it can be many things, and those things that are demonstrably excellent and push our mission of providing the highest level of service and care possible are justifiably rewarded.
We kicked off the program about a month ago and have had dozens of submissions already. Every submission is put into the employees personnel file, and some qualify for additional rewards…in a few weeks we will take 8 staff members who were recognized for true excellence out to dinner, to celebrate their dedication and to help foster camaraderie.
I will work to get some of these acts put up on the blog, particularly the truly excellent and remarkable ones…I am so happy to see team members recognizing not only one another, but recognizing those things, the small acts and extra gestures, that make our company truly special. I have said many times in the past – we are not about equipment, we are about service, and when we do our job well we can have a profoundly positive impact on the professionals, families, and individuals we provide service to.
We will continue to work towards excellence and try to improve – every day, and I look forward to highlighting some serious excellence in the weeks and months to come…and I know our team members look forward to being “Caught in the Act of Excellence”…and our customers LOVE to be on the other end of these acts, because it means someone went the extra few miles to care for their needs, which doesn’t seem to happen too often these days.

We hope it serves as an entertaining and educational look at the home medical equipment and respiratory care industry...some good information, a few laughs and a sharp look inside a fast growing company that is wholly dedicated to improving the customer experience.
