Do we Need More Spending in Healthcare, or Better Spending in Healthcare?
Published on 12/18/08 01:27PM by Gary SheehanThe question we face as a country is do we need a dramatic increase in the amount of money spent in healthcare to improve outcomes, or do we need some system overhaul to ensure that the money invested is done so wisely and results in the improved delivery of care?
This snippet makes a few great points on the subject...and dovetails with the overall message the home medical equipment community has been delivering for years; home healthcare is a wise investment and will slow overall healthcare spending through the intelligent investment in prevention of hospitalizations.
We're not asking for more here, we simply want basic recognition that the work we do impedes the rapid rise in overall healthcare cost, and we are an intricate part of the solution...inevitably that drives greater investment from the public and private sector, and strengthens the overall healthcare economy - for payers, patients, and inevitably the US system.
